It is sad to say the Bulldogs season is over. The fans of the Bulldogs have to be the luckiest fans in hockey. 2nd year team and they made the playoffs both times. When I first heard the team was coming here I really thought as fans in Blackfalds we were going to be watching a struggling team for at least a few seasons, which has been farther from the truth. Also such a likeable bunch of players to watch. Can not wait for next season. Looks like I am going to be following college hockey quite closely next year too.
Tyler Teasdale opened up the scoring for the Bulldogs notching his second of the playoffs from Jason Siedem and Kasey Hiemstra at 5:13 of the first period. Hunter Biden Wallace (Have to call him that as the Bulldogs have the real Wallace) tied it up for the Bandits at 18:25 of the first period on the Powerplay. Assists to Captain and Sudbury, Ontario native Dario Beljo and Nathan Free.
Shots after the first period were 17-2 for Brooks. If Matthew Hennessey wasn’t playing like a wall the score would of been worse. Hunter Wallace notched his second of the game on the powerplay assist again to Dario Beljo. That goal was also on the powerplay just 59 seconds into the second period. That gave the Bandits a 2-1 lead.
Jack Plandowski tied the game up at 9:19 of the second period. With assists to Kody Willick and David Brandes. In the third period at 13:00 Aiden Fink scored to make it 3-2 on the Powerplay. Assists on the goal to Sam Court and Dario Beljo. Hunter Wallace got his hat trick goal on the empty net which sealed the game and the series with 1:20 left.
Other Notes
Bulldogs next game is probably sometime in August I imagine or early September.
Attendance at the Eagle Builders Centre in Blackfalds was 1288
Brooks outshot the Bulldogs 37-22. Ethan Barwick made 20 saves in net for the win for Brooks. Matthew Hennessey saved 33 of the 36 shots he faced. It was very close I would assume to pick the first star. As well as Hunter Wallace played I’m sure even he’d admit Hennessey was hard to beat. Every goal Brooks got was on the Powerplay.
Three Stores 1) Hunter Wallace 2) Matthew Hennessey 3) Aiden Fink
The Bulldogs were 0 for 3 on the power play. The Bandits were 3 for 6.
Blackfalds will lose six players due to being overaged next season. Many on their way out feature some big names including captain Brett Meerman, starting goaltender Matthew Hennessey, Tyler Wallace, Jason Siedem, Kasey Hiemstra, and Evan Mitchell. There will later be a season review page where you can read more. LINK
