The worse the team the worse the Bulldogs do. Its like Fort McMurray all over again.
The Bulldogs outshot the Bobcats. The strangest thing about the game was even though the Bulldogs goalies let in almost half of the shots they faced they really didn’t play that bad. Even though Bobcat goalie Jack Solomon made 27 saves and got a shut out he really didn’t play that good. Its not that he played bad it was hard to tell as every shot he faced was directly at him or missed the net by a large margin. This also has to be frustrating for Mr Solomon as any scout coming to watch him would also have no idea of if he is a good goalie or not.
The chances the Bulldogs got were ridiculous and they just couldn’t finish. I asked the 50/50 lady at one point if she could go down to the Bobcat dressing room to get Solomon to touch my 50/50 ticket. The Bobcats however did finish on every chance they had and they made it count.
Former Chilliwack Chief Dalton MacGillivray and captain Caden Cabana both scored beauties for the Bobcats. Every single shot that the Bobcats took in the first period had goal potential. They only had 8 shots and they were all quality shots. I can not say the same for the Bulldogs.
Bulldogs outshot the Bobcats 11-8 in the first period
3, Lloydminster, Steinke 4 (Weller), 3:47.
4, Lloydminster, Weller 2 11:29.
5, Lloydminster, MacGillivray 20 (Redekopp, Setter), 15:24.
6, Lloydminster, Cabana 23 (Aucoin, Mittoo), 18:27 (PP)
With 38 seconds left in the second period Kody Willick attempted to spark the team with a scrap. Which is usually a good idea in a situation like this but it is hard to find a willing combatant when you are getting shelled 6-0. I am all for scraps in hockey that was just a scuffle that should of resulted in a 2 minute coincidental each for roughing. Kicking them out for fighting makes about as much sense as putting tampons in mens washrooms. Again if you look at some of the people officiating the game you may understand. All a kid would have to do from the Bobcats would be agree to fight him at centre ice, skate out there and let him drop the gloves, turtle, then a 5 is assessed then you are really screwed. Another great suggestion instead of a fight would be to just superman dive into the opposing teams bench and let the laughter ensue.
Bulldogs outshot the Bobcats 9-5 in the second period
7, Lloydminster, Aucoin 12 (Cabana), 12:05.
8, Lloydminster, Spooner 6 (Mittoo), 18:58.
Lots of strange questionable calls in this game too. Last game against the Wolverines on Tuesday it seemed as if the refs called nothing. This crew Friday seemed to call every little thing. The funny thing is watching them when they made the calls. Like they would look at themselves in the glass when they were making the calls. Wouldn’t surprise me if they do it at home in front of their home mirror also on Friday nights when there are no games.
The Bobcats outshot the Bulldogs in the third period 9-7 but the Bulldogs outshot them in the game 27-22.
Jack Solomon stopped all 27 shots that he faced for the win for the Bobcats. While Ethan Morrow stopped 6 of the 10 shots that he faced in the first period. Wilson Maxfield then went in and stopped 8 of the 12 shots he faced.
Attendance in Blackfalds was 712
Bulldogs next game is Saturday December 16th in Brooks against the Bandits. The Bulldogs next home game is New Years Eve against the Calgary Canucks at 4pm. That game against Brooks will be an interesting one. Brooks is missing 6 of their players. Even with missing 6 of their players and losing a few games ago to Canmore 4-1 they managed to thump the Camrose Kodiaks 10-2 Friday night. The Kodiaks are now without former Bulldog Charlie Zolin who bolted and went to the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL.
It is a great thing the kids are all wearing neck guards now. That way they will always be safe in case an opposing player feels the urge to flying drop kick them during the game. I notice the neck guards alot laying on the ice. Looks like a safety hazard. almost willing to bet that a kid trips on one and hurts them selves before one protects them. Someone made money off of the tragedy.
New addition Carter Cormier looked really good in his first game. It is really unfortunate of the outcome. Once the Bulldogs get back on track he should fit in well.
On a bright note someone else ended up scoring a goal tonight in an Augustana 5-2 loss to Alaska Fairbanks. The school where Bulldog leading scorer Brendan Ross is heading next season.
