In their first matchup of the season, the Red Deer Rebels earned a character 4-3 overtime victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday night at the InnovationPlex, despite being outshot 33-25. Ty Coupland and Jaxon Fuder scored on power plays, Owen Shadrick netted a crucial tally, and Matthew Gard sealed the win with an early overtime goal, allowing the Rebels to claim three points on their Saskatchewan road trip and improve to 3-8-0-1.

20 year old Swift Current local and former WHL journeyman Anthony Wilson opened up the scoring for the Broncos at 6:04 of the first period the assist on the goal went to Ufa, Russia native Stepan Kuryachenkov.Anthony Wilson opened the scoring for Swift Current midway through the first period, taking a feed from Stepan Kuryachenkov and putting a back hander past Rebels goaltender Chase Wutzke at 6:04 to give the Broncos a 1–0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Ty Coupland tied the game up for the Rebels at 7:00 of the second period while on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Keith McInnis and Beckett Hamilton.With a two-player edge, Ty Coupland knotted things up by unleashing a rocket from the faceoff circle that slipped past Broncos goaltender Aiden Eskit into the back of the net. The strike against his old squad marked Coupland’s second goal over the last two outings and his team-high fifth of the campaign.

2025 Pittsburgh Penguins second round pick Peyton Keetles playing in his first game this season gave the Broncos a 2-1 lead at 16:46 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to Broncos leading scorer Noah Kosick and Brandon, Manitoba native Josh McGregor.Swift Current regained the lead when Peyton Kettles snapped a wrist shot past Wutzke to make it 2-1, but the Rebels refused to go away.

Jaxon Fuder tied it up for the Rebels to make it a 2-2 game at 3:53 of the third period while on the Power Play. The helpers on the goal went to Samuel Drancak and Nate Yellowaga.The Rebels’ power play continued to click in the third. Jaxon Fuder tied the game at 3:53 waiting at the side of the net.

Owen Shadrick got the Rebels their first lead of the game to make it 3-2 at 8:15 of the third period with the assist on the goal going to Zane Torre. That marks the first WHL point for Torre who hails from Ladera Ranch, California. That is in the Orange County L.A area.

Anthony Wilson then tied the game up with his second goal of the night and 5th of the season at 13:59 of the third period. The assists on the goal went to Noah Kosick and Peyton Kettles.

Shots in the third period were 8-7 for the Rebels

Matthew Gard scored the winner in overtime just 1:30 in to make the Rebels have a lot better of a bus trip home. The assists on the goal went to Jaxon Fuder and Keith McInnis.

Shots in Overtime were1-0 for the Rebels

For the Rebels Chase Wutzke made 30 saves on the 33 shots that he faced for the win. For the Broncos 17 year old Calgary native Aiden Eskit made 21 saves on the 25 shots that he faced.
