Red Deer Rebels went down to Calgary to play the Hitmen on Sunday. The Rebels have won the previous five meetings between the clubs this season.
Jace Isley scored his 22nd goal seconds after Jayden Grubbe won the face off and gave him the puck at 7:35 of the first period. The Rebels held on to the one goal lead for the majority of the frame until Abbotsford native Grayden Siepmann of the Hitmen scored his 8th of the season on the power play with just 4 seconds remaining. Assists on that goal from Oliver Tulk and Carter Yakemchuk. The game is all tied up at 1 going into the second period shots on goal for the first period Rebels 14 Hitmen 8.
Jayden Grubbe makes it 2-1 Red deer but the refs had to take a look. Goal. Everyone knew it was a goal why waste the time? Dramatic effect. The look on Grubbe’s face after the refs dared question if that went in was priceless👍 Matteo Danis tapped one in off a pass from Sean Tschigerl to tie things up once again. Sean Tschigerl would net one more for Calgary on the power play with under two minutes to go in the second, taking their first lead of the game. 3-2 Hitmen. I always hope that Tschigerl never does anything in a game I have to say anything about. Just the last name I have heard it pronounced tons of different ways. That name is like Brady Skjei in the NHL. I don’t know if the origin of that is Dutch or German. Its something I haven’t seen before.
The Hitmen’s London Hoilett makes it 4-2. Assists on the goals to Tomis Marinkovic and Maxim Muranov. Hoilett, Oliver Twist, and that guy whose name no one can pronounce all seem to have good games against the Rebels. They did the last game too at least.
The Rebels had a huge 14-3 advantage in shots in the third period and applied some heavy pressure in the dying moments, but couldn’t get a puck past Brayden Peters, well except for a disallowed goal by Lind.
Other notes
The Rebels are idle until Friday when they host the Saskatoon Blades. The Winnipeg Ice visit the Peavey Mart Centrium 24 hours later. Going to be a good weekend👍
Attendance at the dome 4981.
Rhett Stoesser made 20 saves on 24 shots on the night.
Three stars of the game were 1) The kid whose name no one can pronounce (Sean Tshigerl) who just got off a multiple game injury. He got a goal and an assist. 2) Rebels Jayden Grubbe with a goal and an assist for Red Deer and 3) London Hoilett from the Hitmen with the insurance goal.
