Bulldogs get their first win of the season with a 2-1 win over Prince George on Tuesday at the BCHL Showcase in Abbotsford, BC. The Bulldogs are now in the basement of the league standings with a 1-8 record. Blackfalds ended the night 1-for-3 on the power play while Prince George was 0-for-5.
Whitby, Ontario native Jamie Darlison got the Bulldogs on the board at 9:13 of the first period on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Tyler Chiovetti and Jayden Joly. Just looking back on elite prospects Darlison was a teammate of Alexander Dimitriadis in the OJHL in 2022-23 with the Pickering Panthers. Or they both played there in the 2022-23 season at least. I could be blind on that goal but it appeared it was Joly to Chiovetti with Darlison tipping it. The BCHL site says otherwise. Either way its 1-0.
Shots in first period were 14-5 for the Bulldogs
Joey Melo made it a 2-0 game when he scored shorthanded 1:03 into the second period with the assist on the goal going to James Johnson. I think Melo scored one similar to that last week too.
Ottawa native and former Soo Greyhound Ethan Montroy scored his 7th goal of the season to get the Spruce Kings on the board at 13:19 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to former Cowichan Valley Capital Brock Cummings and New Brunswick native Evan Bellamey.
Shots in second period were 13-6 for the Spruce Kings
Shots in the third period were 12-8 for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs outshot the Spruce Kings 32-26 in the game.
Waylon Esche made 25 saves on the 26 shots that he faced for the Bulldogs. For the Spruce Kings 17 year old Prince George native Ryder Green made 30 saves on the 32 shots the he faced.
Three Stars of the game were 1) Tyler Chiovetti 2) Jamie Darlison 3) Waylon Esche
Next game is Friday October 18th against the Sherwood Park Crusaders in Blackfalds
