The Red Deer Rebels put a solid team effort together Friday night at the Marchant Crane Centrium and walked away with a 5-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen. After falling behind early, captain Beckett Hamilton got things rolling with a slick shorthanded marker in the second, then the boys poured it on in the third. It was a nice bounce-back against the Hitmen after that tough matinee loss in Calgary a couple weeks back (the 7-3 setback on the 17th). Getting the better of them this time felt good, especially with the rivalry heating up, and the crowd of 3,319 was into it the whole way.

The win bumps the Rebels to 9-4-1-1 and 20 points, stretching their lead to four points over Calgary at the top of the Central Division. They’re 2-1-0-1 against the Hitmen this season now and even grabbed the in-season Cup back. Coach Kisio liked the work rate and urgency even if it wasn’t perfect, and that’s the kind of game that builds confidence heading into the next stretch.
