Rebels defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes to record their first win of the season. The Red Deer Rebels dominated early in their matchup against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday, with goals from Ty Coupland and Owen Shadrick in the first period. Despite a spirited effort from the Hurricanes to stay competitive, the Rebels’ relentless pressure in the third period secured a 4-2 victory.

Ty Coupland opened up the scoring going topshelf for the Rebels at 6:03 of the first period with the assist on the goal going to Keith McInnis.-The Rebels kicked off the scoring when Ty Coupland notched his first goal of the season just six minutes into the first period. Coupland slipped to the bottom of the faceoff circle and fired a shot into the top corner, capitalizing on a precise pass from Keith McInnis down low.

17 year old Valencia, California native Owen Shadrick made it a 2-0 game for the Rebels at 12:38 of the first period with the helpers on the goal going to Noah Milford and West Fargo, North Dakota native Grayden Peterson.–At the 12:38 mark, Owen Shadirck doubled the Rebels’ lead, neatly slotting in his first WHL goal off a sharp cross-ice pass from Noah Milford. Grayden Peterson also picked up an assist, marking his first point in the league.
Jaxon Fuder hit Kade Duell from behind in the first period. Shane Smith didn’t like it the two dropped the gloves.


Whitehorse, Yukon native Luke Cozens scored his third goal of the season to get the Hurricanes on the board at 17:42 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Red Deer native and former Drumheller Dragon Easton Daneault and Duncan, BC native Gavin Lesiuk.
Shots on goal in the first period were 11 to 8 for the Rebels
Former Medicine Hat Tiger Shane Smith tied the game up for the Hurricanes at 6:08 of the second period while on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to former Salmon Arm Silverback and UMass Lowell Commit Carson Olsen and former Okotoks Oiler Kade Duell.
Shots on goal in the second period were 12-6 for the Rebels.

Talon Brigley gave the Rebels the lead at 3:42 of the third period unassisted.- Talon Brigley regained the lead for Red Deer with his first goal of the campaign, capitalizing on a Lethbridge turnover in the low slot 3:42 into the final period.
Matthew Gard pots one into the empty net with 1:36 remaining in the game to give the Rebels a 4-2 victory. The assist on the goal went to Jaxon Fuder.
Shots on goal in the third period are 12-6 for the Rebels. The Rebels outshot the Hurricanes in the game 31-18.
Chase Wutzke made 16 saves on the18 shots that he faced for the win for the Rebels. For the Hurricanes Calgary native Leif Oaten made 27 saves on the 30 shots that he faced.
