The Red Deer Rebels earned a hard-fought 4-3 shootout victory over the defending WHL champion Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night at the Peavey Mart Centrium, delivering some justice against their Central Division rivals. The game started with a burst of offense as both teams traded early goals. Nate Yellowaga scored his first career WHL goal for Red Deer, Samuel Drancak continued his hot streak with another, and Beckett Hamilton added a third before eventually clinching the win with the decisive shootout marker. Goaltender Matthew Kondro was outstanding, stopping 32 of 35 shots in regulation and overtime and denying both Medicine Hat attempts in the shootout to seal the victory. The win improved the Rebels to 8-11-1-2, while the Tigers fell to 12-6-3-2.

Bryce Pickford made it a 1-0 game for the Tigers at 7:49 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Lethbridge, Alberta native Carter Cunningham and former Saskatoon Blade Misha Volotovskii.

Dayton Reschny the cousin of Calgary Flames 2025 first rounder Cole Reschny made it a 2-0 game for the Tigers at 8:31 of the first period with his 5th goal of the season. The assists on the goal went to former Spokane Chief Cam Parr and Ethan Neutens.

Nate Yellowaga scores his first WHL goal at 10:22 of the first period while on a breakaway none the less. The assists on the goal went to Jaxon Fuder and Samuel Drancak.Nate Yellowaga crashed the rush on a 2-on-1 with Jaxon Fuder, took a slick tape-to-tape feed from his linemate, strolled in all alone, and roofed his first-ever WHL goal past Tigers goalie Jordan Switzer.

Samuel Drancak ties the game up for the Rebels at 10:46 of the first period with his 10th goal of the season, continuing on his 8 game goal streak. The assist on the goal went to Jaxon Fuder.Twenty-four seconds later, Samuel Drancak continued his unbelievable heater with a classic wraparound for his eighth goal in eight-straight games. The game was back on even terms in barely the blink of an eye.

Shots on goal in the first period were 12-7 for the Tigers.

Beckett Hamilton was credited the go ahead goal when a Tigers d man deflected the puck in the Tigers net at 9:05 of the second period while the Rebels were on the Power Play.

Kadon McCann ties the game up for the Tigers at 10:40 of the second period with the assist on the goal going to Veeti Vaisanen.

Shots on goal in the second period were tied at 12 each

Shots on goal in a scoreless third period were 10 each.

Shots on goal in overtime were tied at 1 each. The Tigers ended up outshooting the Rebels in the game 35-31

Matthew Kondro made 32 saves on the 35 shots that he faced for the win for the Rebels. For the Tigers Jordan Switzer stopped 27 of the 30 shots that he faced.
