Bulldogs Defeat Korean University 5-1

In last night’s BCHL exhibition matchup at the Eagle Builders Centre, the Blackfalds Bulldogs delivered a much stronger performance than they had the night before in a 5-2 loss to the Okotoks Oilers, cruising to a convincing 5-1 victory over Korea University. Goalie Ben Hakes stood tall between the pipes for the Bulldogs, turning aside nearly everything that came his way and providing the steady backbone that allowed his teammates to control the pace and generate consistent pressure throughout the game. Unfortunately, FloTV failed to work for the contest, leaving many fans unable to follow along remotely. Korea University wrapped up its three-game BCHL portion of the tour with the loss, having earlier edged the Cranbrook Bucks 4-3 on September 5 before falling 4-3 to the Sherwood Park Crusaders the following night. The Korean side also faced AJHL competition during its Canadian swing, dropping a 5-1 decision to the Olds Grizzlys on September 2. Comments from the visiting coaching staff and players have emphasized that the trip is about far more than the final scores—assistant coach Jinhyuk Mun and captain Seongsoon Choi both spoke about raising their players’ standards, improving hockey IQ, decision-making, and preparation while competing against strong Canadian junior teams, and drawing inspiration from the growing number of Korean players succeeding in the BCHL.

Anotine Gauthier made it a 1-0 game with a beautiful goal at 13:04 of the first period with the helper on the goal going to Krisjanis Sarts.

Shots on goal in the first period were 13-8 for the Bulldogs

22 year old Moo Young Lee got Korea on the board to tie the game at 18:43 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Sung Ho Kim and Ryul Kwan.

Shots on goal in the second period were 14-7 for the Bulldogs

Colton Whiterabbit gave the Bulldogs the lead with a point shot at 7:31 of the third period. The assists on the goal went to former Sherwood Park Crusader and Grande Praire Storm forward Max Leduc and Swedish Import Leon Brunn.

Gavin Karl made it a 3-1 game moments later at 8:03 of the first period. The helpers on teh goal went to Colton Whiterabbit and John Krastonakis. I am certain that Karl scored this goal. The BCHL website says it was Whiterabbit but I could of sworn it was Karl. Since Flo TV didn’t work we won’t know for sure🤣

Mattehw Croxall makes it a 4-1 game at 9:11 of the third period with the helper on the goal going to fellow returnne Antoine Gauthier.

Nicholas DiPaolo gets an unassisted power play marker at 12:14 of the third period to finish off the game 5-1

Shots on goal in the third period were 11-7 for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs outshot Korean University 38-22 in the game.

Calgary native Ben Hakes stopped 21 of the 22 shots that he faced for the win for the Bulldogs. The guy played amazing this game. Its going to make it really hard to choose goalies. Woo Kyoung Lee stopped 33 of the 38 shots the he faced for the Koreans.
