Blake Fiddler, a towering 6-foot-4, 209-pound right-handed defenseman for the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL, is emerging as a top prospect for the 2025 NHL Draft, with rankings reflecting his potential as a first-round pick. As of early 2025, he’s ranked #20 by EliteProspects.com, #21 by TSN’s Bob McKenzie, and #24 by NHL Central Scouting among North American skaters, showcasing his status as a highly coveted shutdown defender with offensive upside. Born on July 9, 2007, in Nashville, Tennessee, Fiddler—son of former NHLer Vernon Fiddler—brings a blend of size, mobility, and defensive prowess that makes him a standout. In the 2024-25 season, through 58 games, he’s recorded 5 goals, 17 assists, and 22 points, with a +8 plus-minus and 58 penalty minutes, averaging around 22 minutes of ice time per game. His strong skating, physical play, and ability to disrupt rushes, paired with improving puck-moving skills, draw comparisons to Boston’s Brandon Carlo, hinting at a future as a reliable top-four NHL defenseman. For your blog, Fiddler’s journey from Texas minor hockey to WHL stardom, bolstered by his dual U.S.-Canadian citizenship and international experience, adds a compelling narrative to his rising prospect stock.
