In one of the most stunning results in IIHF World Championship history, Norway stunned Canada 3-2 in overtime to capture the bronze medal Sunday in Zurich. The tournament underdogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead and looked poised for the upset of a lifetime, only for Canada to mount a furious late comeback with two goals in the final 1:16 to force extra time. But just 3:32 into 3-on-3 overtime, Norway delivered the knockout blow, securing their country’s first-ever senior men’s Worlds medal and leaving a star-studded Canadian squad to head home empty-handed for the third straight year.

Emilio Pettersen makes it a 1-0 game for Norway at 6:44 of the first period. The assist on the goal went to Christian KaasastulMidway through the first period, Norway’s Emilio Pettersen pounced on a costly turnover by Canadian goalie Jet Greaves behind his own net. Forechecking hard, Pettersen swiped the puck, spun around in front, and tucked it home on a sharp wraparound to give the underdogs a stunning 1-0 lead and set the tone for one of the biggest upsets in Worlds history.

San Diego Gulls Stian Solberg makes it 2-0 for the Norwegians at 12:29 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to Grand Rapids Griffin Michael Brandsegg-Nygård and Johannes Johannesen Early in the second period, Norway defenceman Stian Solberg stepped up at the blue line and wired a heavy wrister through a maze of bodies. The puck caught a fortuitous deflection off Zach Whitecloud’s leg and knuckled past a screened Jet Greaves, doubling Norway’s lead to 2-0 and sending the Norwegian bench into a frenzy on their way to histoy.

Robert Thomas gets Canada on the board with just over a minute left in the game at 18:44 on an unassisted goal.Late in the third period with the extra attacker on and just 1:16 remaining, Robert Thomas jumped on a loose puck in the slot and ripped a quick wrister top shelf past Henrik Haukeland. That unassisted marker cut Norway’s lead to 2-1, igniting a frantic late push from Canada

Then with only 8 seconds left Robert Thomas scored again to tie the game. The assists on the goal went to Ryan O’Reilly and Macklin Celebrini.With just 7.6 seconds left on the clock and the net empty, Ryan O’Reilly flipped a desperation pass out from behind the Norwegian goal. Robert Thomas battled to the crease, knocked the puck down off his chest and swept it home on the doorstep to tie the game at 2-2, forcing overtime

Shots on goal in the third period were 20-6 for Canada.

In Overtime at 3:32 Noah Steen scored the winner for Norway unassisted to capture the bronze medal on a shot you could see was a goal from a mile away. -Just 3:32 into 3-on-3 overtime, Norway sprung a 2-on-1 rush and Noah Steen elected to keep it himself. The Tampa Bay prospect calmly walked in off the wing and sniped a laser over Jet Greaves’ glove hand, sending the Norwegian bench into pandemonium and delivering their country’s first-ever medal at the Worlds with a stunning 3-2 victory.

Shots on goal in the overtime period were 1 each. The Canadians outshot the Norwegians 46-24 in the game.

For Norway Henrik Haukeland made 44 saves on the 46 shots he faced for the win. For Canada Jet Greaves stopped 21 of the 24 shots that he faced.
