This the fourth meeting this season, and second-straight, between the Rebels and Oil Kings. Red Deer won two of the first three. After the two teams split their opening weekend home-and-home series, the Rebels pulled ahead in the season series with a 5-2 win on Sunday over the Oil Kings at Rogers Place.

Carson Latimer got it started giving the Rebels a 1-0 lead at 3:45 of the first period. The assists on the goal to Samuel Drancak and Kalan Lind.Carson Latimer showcased his scoring prowess once again, reminiscent of his performance in the previous Sunday’s game. He wasted no time in finding the back of the net early in the match-up. Seizing a bouncing puck in the slot, Latimer executed a skillful wrist shot at the 3:45 mark, marking his sixth goal of the season against Edmonton’s goalie, Logan Cunningham. Samuel Drancak and Kalan Lind provided the assists, solidifying the Rebels’ lead at 1-0.

Talon Brigley scored his 3rd goal of the season at 13:15 of the second period. The assists on the goal going to Carson Birnie and Elias Carmichael.Talon Brigley extended the lead to 2-0 by capitalizing on a pass from Carson Birnie, who was stationed behind the net. 16 seconds later Captain Kai Uchacz got his 4th goal of the season on the Power Play to make it a 3-0 game Rebels. Assists on the goal to Mats Lindgren and Carson Latimer Kai Uchacz piled on just 16 seconds later, scoring his fourth of the season from the top of the left circle.

Jhett Larson scored his second goal of the season on the Power Play to make it a 4-0 game Rebels. With the assists going to Ollie Josephson and Quentin Bourne at 11:22 of the third period.– Jhett Larson, with Red Deer on the power play, notched his second of the season at 11:22 of the third period courtesy of a back door pass by Ollie Josephson.

Rhett Stoesser stopped all 29 of the shots he faced in goal for the Rebels for the win and the shutout. Everytime I see the name Rhett Stoesser I think of that stove top stuffing. That is Stoesser’s third career WHL shutout. Logan Cunningham stopped 28 of the 32 shots he faced for the Oil Kings.

Three Stars of the game were 1) Rhett Stoesser 2) Carson Latimer 3) Landon Hanson. If you want to count Latimer’s scuffle with MacKenzie a fight he got a Gordie Howe Hat Trick. (Refs counted it as one). A few years back it would of been a questionable roughing and maybe a delay of game. But times have changed.

“It’s nice to get that one early in the year and give me some confidence,” King said. “It was awesome playing tonight and getting the win at the end. A good four points against a really good team. It was a fun game for me and for the whole team.

“The puck went to the point, and I was in the corner and just tried to get to the net. Fortunately enough, the puck came my way and [I] just got a stick on it. So, it’s a lucky bounce, but I’ll take it.”
