Wenatchee Wild’s Matt Savoie opens up the scoring for the Canadians at 3:33 of the opening period with the assist on the goal going to San Jose Sharks draft pick Jake Furlong.
Conor Geekie who is a teammate of Savoie’s in Wenatchee scored on the Power Play to give the Canadians a 2-0 lead at 10:43 of the first period with the assists going to Macklin Celebrini and Moose Jaw Warrior Denton Mateychuk.
Jonas Taibel puts the Swiss on the board and makes it a 2-1 game. With the assists going to Moncton Wild Cat Miles Muller and Simone Terraneo at 13:08. Switzerland battled back shortly after, with captain Jonas Taibel cutting the lead in half minutes after Geekie’s goal.
Miles Muller then ties the game up for the Swiss shorthanded at 17:12 with the assist going to Louis Fullemann.–Miles Muller tied the game late in the first, breaking in alone while shorthanded and firing the equalizer past Mathis Rousseau.
Canada outshot the Swiss 15-8 in the first period of play.
Owen Beck scored just 28 seconds into the second period with the assists going to Soo Greyhounds Owen Allard and Columbus Blue Jackets 2022 first rounder Denton Mateychuk.
Boston Bruins Matt Poitras finishes off a pass from Conor Geekie to make it a 4-2 game at 5:13 of the second period the other assist on the goal went to Drummondville Voltigeurs Maveric Lamoureux. Lamoureux is 6’7 and a 2022 first round pick of the Arizona Coyotes (so is Geekie). Lamoureux is for sure one of the tallest players to ever play for Canada. Tyler Myers was listed at 6’8 and that was back in 2009. Of the top of my head thats the only other giant in the last few years I remember.
Vancouver native Fraser Minten made the game 5-2 at 7:24 of the second frame. The assists went to fellow Vancouver native Macklin Celebrini and Halifax Moosehead Jordan Dumais.
Celebrini got 5 and a game for hitting from behind at 12:55 of the second period. It was a clear hit from behind. No real intent to injure so I highly doubt a suspension will occur from it. Plus he is the touted #1 NHL pick for 2024. They will swing something no matter what he did to guarantee he plays in the tournament. If that was a Russian kid he would be barred from International play for life. If Russia was at the tournament and Michkov hit Celebrini that way all hell would break out. The player that Celebrini did hit however Leo Braillard who plays for the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL did not return to the game after the hit.
Canada killed off the entire major penalty and during it managed to score shorthanded. Owen Beck gets his second of the game on a breakaway short handed. 6-2 Canada.
Shots in the second were 15-11 Canada
Switzerland scores to make it 6-3. Jan Hornecker from Endo Meier and Nick Meile
Halifax Moosehead Mathis Rousseau made 26 saves on the 29 shots that he faced for the win. While Alessio Beglieri made 24 saves on the 29 shots he faced for the first 2 periods of the game. While goalie Lorin Grutter stopped all 9 shots that he faced in the third.
Owen Beck was Canada’s player of the game. Miles Muller got it for the Swiss.
Tanner Molendyk also left the game–coach Alan Letang on Tanner Molendyk: “We pulled him out. He was icing & he seemed to be pretty good so we’ll see how he responds in the morning & go from there.” Tristan Luneau “not likely” to play on Saturday. There could be a possibility of a call up replacement dman
Canada’s next exhibition game is December 23rd against the USA. They open up the tournament on Boxing Day against Finland.
Joey Savoie. Joey could be a household name by the end of the tournament. 😜
It also appears that several news outlets all used the same story. They probably plugged the original one into chatgpt and told it to write this as if someone else wrote it. Hence why Joey Savoie is everywhere. Fire these journalists. They probably draw a good salary too just plugging crap into chat gpt. Pathetic🙄 It is your typical CTV Toronto Star liberal outlets that plagerize and lie.
